"We have to build it to something where people really want to be here," said Pete, who started racing in 1963 and drove until 1987, closing out that final season as track champion at Flamboro Speedway in super late model. Back in 1970, Pete won the first-ever 50-lap race run in Varney. "The fans are getting more racing, and better racing," said Gord's father, Pete, enlisted along with his wife, Isobel, to lend a hand at the track.
